IMG_9489My plates don’t match. My convection oven door falls open at the quietest moments. My linens aren’t perfect for the room. The lamps in my bedroom don’t have any shades.

I – don’t – care.

I had a ‘Gala’, ‘Grand Opening’, ‘Holy Crap We did it’ party this weekend and didn’t have the money to cater it in. So we did it. WE DID IT. Volunteers brought in food. Rhyne and I hit the Sharp Shopper and wung it. And we wung it well, because all of the people who came to the opening appreciated our efforts.

Nope, the linens weren’t perfect. The menu wasn’t exactly the way we had planned. What we served was from our hearts just like the purple/yellow/green/orange/blue apartment space above. We poured it out, without reservation, from our hearts.

Everyone around me isn’t ‘perfect’. We are the real life Island of Misfit Toys. We are the kids, adults and in betweens searching for our place in life, not afraid to get it wrong.

We are business owners, students, moms, dads, artists, musicians, dreamers, believers – the lost and the found…

What we all have in common is our willingness to put it out there and maybe not get it completely right – but damn it – we put it out there.

We got it right. We opened the doors to a magical place. We know that we are on the verge of something even bigger. The die hards are what keep me going. In a world of complacency these people never give up. They NEVER GIVE UP.

In a county of ‘Why bother’ they bother. We all have hope. We all have something that wakes us up in the morning and allows us to sleep at night. We have a crazy fire that keeps us together no matter what.

We’re not perfect but we’re perfectly together.

Thank you so much to all those who find a kinship with our craziness, our mismatched plates and our willingness to not quite get it ‘right’. Without you the dream ends inside these walls. With you we can go anywhere.

I can’t wait to see where we will go.
