IMG_1798We stopped for ice cream on the way home tonight. The sky was amazing, so I wandered off.  I wandered into the middle of the street.  I was shooting the stormy sky when I heard little voices question me.

“What are you doing?”  “Why are you here?”

I peered over at three pairs of curious young eyes and said, “I’m shooting the sky – because it’s beautiful.”

They answered – simply, “Come shoot us.”

So I did.

I wandered onto a complete strangers porch and began taking pictures of three enthusiastic, beautiful spirits without permission or familiarity.  Strange, I’m sure, but something I couldn’t resist or think twice about.  I envy kids for their ability to just be, to trust by instinct.  That’s all I’ve ever really wanted.

Moments later their parents emerged.  I was at a loss for words.  Who was I and why was I standing on THEIR porch taking pictures of THEIR children.  Thank goodness they allowed me to explain.  I had no cards to hand them.  I could only give them my name, my word, that I had no ulterior motives.

I had simply stopped to photograph something beautiful and something even more beautiful had called out to me.

I love living in a small town.  In this crazy hectic world, I always need to remember,  that I simply love living.IMG_1780
